Penny's voice is breaking. There was a hint yesterday, but today her squeaks are definitely ending in a groan. Can this be used to determine her age or do squeakers' voices break at different times in different birds?

I'm not really sure at what age that happens. My lil Pij with the bad leg sounds like a sea gull and he's about 2 months old. LOL. How old is Penny?

Usually around their first moult time after waening. I noticed though that some sound like duet of Ella Fitzerald and Luis Amstrong for longer.

Penny may be older, as I caught her 3 weeks ago and she looked quite grown-up then. In fact, I hadn't realised she was a squeaker until she squeaked, lol!

That's just too funny! But yes, she's started to molt, so that must be it. |

Oh my gosh! I wondered the same thing. WeiPea, by guess was about 20 to 30 days old (Sept 1) and about a week ago started sounding different. I didn't think he was sick. He just reminded me of my son when his voiced changed. (He will never know I spoke of this ) It's like he wants to sound like a "big" bird but just can't get it right! I really try to help...bob my head and sing Bird, Bird, Bird, bird is the word, etc... Of course Joe laughs at us, but I wondered if their voice really changed...say during puberty I still wonder. WeiPea hasn't molted yet.
