| My brother called and told me about this little girl. She was puffed up, alone on the street and barely standing on one foot. He got closer to her and realized she still had string on her feet. As you can see, the string had already done its damage. He took her off the street and sent her up to the Birdbarn. While Penny Lane was recuperating, she had another recent rescue Fredrick keeping a close eye. During the day, I would bring her cage out for sun, and Fredrick would hang around under her cage cooing and dancing. I think Fredrick realized she was in the same cage he was in, and after a while, she would be set free. After three weeks on meds I let Penny Lane out into the fly pen. Immediately, Fredrick came over and the romance began. They are now inseparable. Penny is checking out the bathing bowls as Fredrick does the dance. i=22&u=14221858] [/url[img] [/img] And they live happily forever together in the Birdbarn.

| Oh Joe, Those pictures are priceless. Your brother's angel wings must light up the entire bay area. Penny Lane is beautiful and such a lucky little hen. She has you to care for her, the pigeon palace as her home and Frederick. What more could a girl want. Thank you so much for sharing her story and photos with us. _________________ Cindy

| That is how it should always end, 'and they lived happily ever after'. I really enjoyed reading this and the pictures are lovely, ( what a beautiful aviary). Janet |

| All these poor birds really deserve their pigeon haven that Joe created. I enormously enjoy watching static mute pictures, I believe reality full of life and sound is much, much better. |

| I've just got to tell you all about Joe. He is a wonderful human and really... he is a hero to me. A few years back, when I discovered the world of Pigeon forums and posted asking for help in placing some rehab/rescues, Joe was the only one to respond and offer help. It was a desperate time for me and it helped having him listen and validate my feelings. Joe immediately sent me pictures of his loft and answered all of my questions to put my mind at ease. I had never mailed a bird before and I was nervous about that. What I'm trying to tell you is that Joe put up with a lot of hysteria form me without becoming impatient or unkind. Joe...I'm gald to have found you. |

| I love happy endings! I find string injuries especially tragic, because they are a man-made source of serious injuries to otherwise perfectly healthy birds. It's wonderful to see the victims recover and enjoy a good quality of life. And, in your pigeon palace and with love in the air, Penny Lane will! Thank you so much for posting this heart-warming story, Joe! You and your brother are real ! |

| Thank you all for the warm comments. I also love happy ending. Penny Lane and Fredrick have started building a nest today. So true love is ever more! Charis, that does seem like a long time ago. I do remember how disappointed I was that no one was coming forward to assist in your situation. I was just a lurker on that site, but had noticed how much advice and help you had given to others, yet no one was giving to you. You are my number one contact for any pigeon related advice and I cherish your friendship. Teresa-I totally agreed that string foot injuries are so debilitating on a perfectly healthy bird. I have on many times, picked up string off the street at the bewilderment of people looking at me. I do have another blue bar hen (Pij-girl) who sports the same footwear as Penny Lane. She has been with me since 2001, mated and has had three oops babies over the years. She is mated to Duce, a black feral I found as a baby on Second St. in SF many years ago. |
